I've used TMPEGenc, successfully on a number of occasions but now everytime I try to open an MPEG2 file to encode as SVCD, TMPEGenc gives up and dies, I don't see an error message, just Microsoft's helpful (I'm sure they're really interested in examining my error and sending me a fix back) dialog informing me that an error report can be sent to Microsoft. It seems to work fine for mpg files.
System is Win XP home, Athlon 1.20Ghz, 256MB DDR Ram

Try This. In Tmpgenc, go to Mpeg tools, simple de-multiplex. Open your file and hit run. This will produce seperate files containing the audio and video. Try loading these speratley into TmpGenc for encoding. If you still have problems try converting the .mp2 audio file into PCM uncompressed format. I use sonic Soundforge to do this but other tools will be able to do this. Then load the .wav file as the audio stream in TmpGenc. Can't guarantee this will fix your problem but it works for me!

Opening MPEG2 directly in TMPGENC doesn't work for most people. It needs to be frameserved using DVD2AVI.
You have to use DVD2AVI to open the MPEG2 file, then save it as a .d2v file (which is a pointer to the MPEG2 file) and the audio will be extracted to a .mpa file.
Under TMPGENC, add the d2v file (make sure the DVD2AVI is in the same folder as TMPGENC - you need the d2v file reader vfapi plugin there so TMPGENC can find it) for the video, and the .mpa file for the audio. That works for most folks.
Second option is to download the MPEG2 plugin for TMPGENC elsewhere on this website. It should give you native MPEG2 import support for TMPGENC. I tried the second option and it didn't work out for me. DVD2AVI works like a charm and it's quick./\/\ars /\/\ayhem -
I don't know if it's just me (or if it's changed in the latest version) but TMPGenc always crashes for me when I open mpeg audio as input (even a vcd compliant mpeg it just created!) Video works just fine, and avi's are always fine. So try processing just the video (after demultiplexing). I've converted the audio to PCM and then encoded all at once, and I've also frameserved from virtualdub. There are probably other ways, but I don't do it often enough to worry about it.
