  1. I have a media player for my tv what doesn't play x265 files, wondering if there is a muxer or something to do a quick convert?

ATM i am using ffmpeg to re-encode back to x264 but is tedious if i want decent compression

    Any ideas?

You have to recode if you want it to be an H.264, no easy way around it. You may try a faster x264 preset. Also HEVC (x265) videos are harder to decode, so your computer will have to spend more time just decompressing the video in order to compress it.

Remuxing x265 into x264 is like pouring orange juice from one glass and it changes to apple juice in another. Not going to happen.

You have to convert the orange juice to apple juice. Whatever you need to do is whatever to acheive this, but a simple pouring will not work.

You have to re-encode. You will lose quality, keep in mind, so I'd suggest you keep the x265 files if they're your source (or whatever your source is). This way you will always have the highest quality options for the future, and future players should be able to play x265 in a few years anyway.

If you're keeping the source, and you only really want to play them on one media player for now, and don't really care for the highest qualtiy, yes, as was mentioned, just use a faster preset with x264 and it will be like remuxing (speedwise).

  4. Yeah thought so :/

HEVC overall is alot better than AVC but requires a lot more processing power to decode which is why, im guessing why my cheap media player wont play it

    Time to upgrade i think!

Not really. Lack of decoding for HEVC is more rule than exception as of this point in time, so media players aren't really "old" just yet if they can't play it today. The word "upgrade" will be more valid in a few years time though, and your player warrants a stay of execution for the time being and near future.
