  1. I want to make DVDs for my family to watch on their televisions. They would be of our family genealogy and would include photos, scans of historical documents, digital scrapbooking pages made with Adobe Photoshop Elements and the like. I would like to be able to make an audio track for it so that it wouldn't just be them reading text on their TVs. I would narrate our ancestor's stories as photos and such went by. Maybe some music. (I want to be sure the exported files from these programs will work on the movie program.)

The problem is that I only know enough to know that I am sure this can be done but not how to do it. I have PSE and the genealogy stuff but I need help choosing a piece of software that will not take up a gigantic amount of space on my laptop, be reasonably easy to use and make a pleasant result that fits all my above criteria. I looked up lists of the best software but I don't know enough about the subject to understand what I am seeing and I don't know what features to look for. And the best programs according to the lists I have found so far get terrible reviews on Amazon -- making me wary. I don't care if the program is free or costs money. I just need someone to point me in the right direction.

Can anyone offer me suggestions based on similar usage experience?

    Thanks in advance!

You can look into the Nero package. Not free, and some will criticize it here as being consumerist and bloatware, but it's simple and should do what you want.

    TMPGEnc also has similar wares.

You can do it with free tools, but I know not of any that would be simple for this task if you're a newbie.

But, whatever you do, keep a copy of the source separately, whether it's the document, photo, tape, or digital capture of it.
I hate VHS. I always did.

Hey, since it's free, I'd try this first if I were the O/P.
