    Hi All,

I'm trying to burn the MP2 [Mpeg2] file created using my ATI - All-In-Wonder to a DVD using Hp100i DVD burner.

I have MYDVD & Ulead Movie Factory installed. MF does not recognize the mp2 file, and MYDVD says the file is too big. I've tried using DVD2AVI & then re-encoding using TMPGENC+. The resulting Mpeg2 is now usable by both MYDVD & MF, but the audio/video is out of sync, and I have a horrendous loss in quality! I'm currently playing with the gap properties in TMPGENC+ to resync video and audio.

I've tried capturing with Virtual Dub, so I can capture to AVI and then convert, but Virtual Dub does not pick up the audio. I've also tried FLYCAP to capture to an AVI file. It works, but captures AVI with audio/video sync problems.

I can capture with MF, but it creates a hugh AVI file.

I am now at the brink of ripping out this capture card, and looking for another one.

Is there some way I can convert these stupid ATI version Mpeg2 files to a usable format so that I can create DVDs??

I'm currently using the card to capture HBO/Showtime movies, but it is becoming pointless if I can only watch them on my PC, and not be able to create DVDs!!!

I'm using MMC 7.1, capturing MPEG2 at "Best Quality" [their settings]
    Windows XP, 1Gig Ram & 120G HD
    .

I have 3 captured movies that I'd like to burn to free up diskspace if it is possible to convert these things.

Thanks in advance for all of your help!

OK first, goto ATI and get the latest player. Should be version 7.5 or 7.6 depending on what card you have.

Now once you install, there will be a DVD setting for capture, but it still won't capture in DVD 'standard' format.

The problem is the audio format in ATI MMC is 44.1K and it needs to be 48K for DVD. To get around this you need to use TMPGenc to demux the MP2 file and then use a program like WinAmp to convert just the audio stream to 48K. Then you can mux the two back together, or use the two files together in the program that creates the DVD.

Once you get the player I can help you further. Also make sure you have the latest drivers, they just updated them recently.

    Regards,

    Thanks for the help Savant.

I did go out to ATI and looked for MMC 7.6. According to their website, this program will not work with my ATI-All-In Wonder because it is not a RADEON series capture card.

Do you know if this is really true, or should I just download and install MMC 7.6 anyway?

    Thanks again!

  4. Hey Nutty

I've been slogging through the same crap trying to get ATI's MPEG2 stream to be compliant for DVD burning, and though it hasn't been easy, it can be done (though I've been doing animated stuff - so I don't know how spot on the audio synching is), but it takes too long. Yesterday I tried the trial of Ulead's DVD Workshop and it encoded it properly in the first go. I did use DV though instead of my ATI card, so I don't know how good the analog capture is, but it encodes it directly to MPEG2 so I didn't have to bother with demuxing, re-encoding, remuxing, etc. And I didn't get a huge RAW video file either. Not as many tweakables as I would like, and probably slightly less quality than doing an offline encode - but it worked good, and all in one shot. Not sure why - but the video looks kinda goofy (wavy lines?!?) when I watched it on my computer, but played fine on the dvd player.

FYI - I didn't use it to generate a DVD image, I just used the captured mpeg in Spruceup! and burned it with Nero, and it played great.

I will have to try the analog capture part later.

Which AIW card is is then, the AIW 128? AIW 128 Pro?
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  6. I have two AIW 128 AGP cards, one w/16MB and other w/32MB. Both ran with MMC 7.5 and 7.6 under XP, everything works. Had to do complete uninstall on one card, other just installed over 7.1 and was OK.

  7. ...or you can use mpeg2vcr (womble) to simply change the audio encoding to 48k. its fast - it takes a couple of minutes. i'd also change the file extension from mp2 to mpg so mpeg2vcr recognizes the file.

I have the ATI TV Wonder card, and it apparently doesn't work with the latest version of MMC. I tried upgrading to the latest version, but it doesn't launch, or I get a generic XP error.

I'm actually starting to lean towards getting another/hopefully better capture card that works better with XP. From what I've read in the forums, it sounds like the ATI cards require too much work to be able to get a file that is useable.
