What are the best x264 settings for 1080p? I'd like to start BluRay ripping tomorrow, and I want to use the best settings

Exactly what are you asking about? BluRay is already encoded as h264, AVC, or MPEG. Ripping doesn't encode anything. To rip means to make a copy. https://www.videohelp.com/glossary?R#Rip.

MakeMKV would give you the best quality. But you need a decrypter program like AnyDVDHD or DVD Fab to handle the BD encryption.

BTW, the best quality from a BD will give you a file size of 20GB - 40GBs.

MakeMKV has its own inbuilt decryption.

As has been said, the best settings are just a straight rip to MKV.
