  1. Hi, ive been trying to record game play for the past few days now and every time i finish a recording, i review it and every single time it messes up. The video and audio will just skip whole seconds(5-7 seconds) in the recording and leave a distorted still of one of the scenes(like ive left below) and then start playing again. Ive searched, seemingly, all over the internet looking for a fix and ive come up empty every time. I run Hauppauge Capture to capture footage and Audacity to record my vocals and thats when it gets screwy but when i did a test of just Hauppauge Capture, everything was fine. All other programs are closed. Could audacity be the problem? The Problem usually happens at the same time every video, around the first 3-4 minutes.

I record my Xbox 360 using a Hauppauge HD PVR 2 GE with all recorded video going onto an external hard drive(931 gb). Ive tried recording in 1280x720 @ 30FPS , 1920x1080 @ 60FPS and 1920x1080 @ 30FPS all in .ts and .mp4. i record about 12-13 minutes worth of video

    My specs:
    Windows 10, 64 bit
Pentium Dual Core @ 2.80 ghz
    8 Gb of ram

You are not making a great amount of sense.

In one breath you say that every capture is messed up and then you go on to say that capture on its own is fine.

In fact your sample video looks fine. But do say in that where the problem(s) you describe are.

Also be more specific when you are trying to capture your voice. At the same time as video capture or during playback. If the former, I am not surprised if you have issues.

  3. Sorry for not making much sense just getting a little flustered

I use audacity at the same time as video capture

as for the sample video, the "problem" happens around the 4-5 second mark

Ok. Looking at the video frame by frame there is a slight blend at an I-frame at the 4.170 mark where the top shows the previous frame and the bottom shows the next. That is not detectable when the video is played at normal speed (well not to my eye)

But I ask. Is it normal to record your commentary at the same time as capture ?. Your PC and HDD is already working at full tilt. To try and add more sound to the video at the same time will surely make it work all the more and increase the chance of skipped video (to attempt to keep both in sync or drop frames when sync fails).

I would have thought that the correct approach is to do your game capture first. Then playback and record your commentary. Then merge the second audio in to the video after.

  5. I like recording both at the same time, i feel it gives the commentary more of an "in the moment" feeling as opposed to feeling "scripted" when recorded afterwards.

I could use my old laptop to record audio and my desktop to record video, then transfer the audio over via usb and merge them together after. Would that fix/solve the problem?

    Yes it would.

Your issue may be related to data bus transfer bottle neck ... thou you need to clarify the system processor ... D or Duo ... D is pushing it.

  9. Update:
I was able to record two flawless videos(in terms of the videos not screwing up) a couple of days ago but now ive spent almost two days trying to do another one and the problem is back. i did a "test" recording(same game) and the video (almost an hour long) was fine(everything was synced up) but every other one is messing up. ive been recording the video and audio on different machines, Video using Hauppauge Capture on desktop(windows 10 64bit, 8Gb RAM) and Audio on laptop(windows vista 32bit, 3Gb RAM) with audacity with no other programs running(steam closed, web browsers closed etc.) on the desktop. im staring to think i wasted $150+ on a fancy glowing paper weight and that i should have got an elgato hd60 instead :\

    PS: Sorry for the Bump

PPS: could it be something with the capture device it self(the HD PVR 2: Gaming Edition) or maybe the capture software(Hauppage Capture)?

  10. Soooooo it appears it may have been the latest version of Capture (1.0.33252 or whatever). i uninstalled that version(and the drivers), and reinstalled the previous version(1.0.33232) and i recorded a test video and it was perfect(everything was synced up in premiere) so yeah...take that as you will

PS: I also forgot to change the directory settings, it was recording the video onto the PC it self instead of the external hard drive.

PpS: sorry for the double post, my bad
