  1. I am an absolute beginner with VCD, so I can use all the help I can get...

I'm using TMPGEnc 2.5 to create MPEGs and then burning them to CD using Roxio's VCD Creator 5.02(314) to create a VCD to play on my set top DVD player. It works, however, the playback on the DVD player is complete crap! It's jerky and hesitates... Really poor quality.

The MPEGs that I created with TMPGEnc 2.5 play fine on my PC using Windows Media Player... Anyone have a clue what's going wrong?

I'm having a similar problem with SVCD playback on my DVD player but only on average to high motion scenes. They play fine on my PC with WMP or Sasami with no jerkiness at all.

I am using TMPGenc 2.53 and I have tried all the settings (2pass VBR, CQ, CBR, etc) and I have tried all the motion precision settings. Interestingly, for playback on my DVD player I have reduced the jerky video motion (audio is fine) using the higest quality motion search precision and using CQ at 100% quality which was better than 2 pass VBR. But I still can't eradicate it completely. I admit I have only played back the raw MPEGS on PC, I haven't actually played the SVCD - I will try this to see if I can ascertain if the problem is being created during burning maybe?

My DVD Player is the Pioneer DV340 which I purchased due to the reviews on this site on how it will play almost anything and I am burning my SVCDs on CD-RW using Nero 5.5.

I have seen other postings on this site today mentioning that changing the field order fixes this. The TMPGenc default is bottom field first and there are suggestions that changing to top field first can solve this. I will try this later but I will also be interested in seeing what other responses you get to this as it seems a very common problem.

    Mark.
