  1. Hello, 60 fps is very modern nowadays. On youtube many people have videos in 60fps, even if they are not gamers.

But do i really need it if i want to record normal videos for example on the beach, or me making a video for youtube ?

What if i want to make a video with strobe light. Because its so fast, will it look on 60fps more smoother than with 30fps?

  2. You don't need 60fps at all. Digital cinema is still shot mainly at 24 fps. It's a tool like any other. Strobe lights can be used in a variety of ways -- what are you trying to do?

  3. I want to make a video where people move to strobe light while playing music.
So i have no idea whether the cam will record it smoothly.

Try it. Adjust your shutter speed (not your frame rate) until you find something you like.

  5. Whats the difference between shutter speed and the frame rate? Can i even adjust shutter speed on my cam?

Frame rate is the number of frames recorded per second. Shutter speed is the length of exposure for each frame -- so you could shoot one second of footage that would contain 30 frames, each exposed at 1/1000 of a second.

Most video cameras have adjustable shutter speed. You haven't told us what camera you're using.

They both have variable shutter speeds.

  10. Any movement would have a stroboscopic effect with settings like that. You'd "notice" missing frames in video watching the footage.

You'd need to use much longer shutter speeds to shoot 30p. Like 1/30 or 1/60. But that's difficult, because you'd introduce blur to movement. You can be careful, using tripod, keep moving object framed or using ND filter in front of your lens outside (on Sunny day for sure), to pan as little as possible or very slow if necessary, but those limitation can be too much for someone. One can get used to that and just shoot 30p like that, the other person would not tolerate that.

Or there is a chance that someone would not mind that strobing. There is lots of photo cameras, phones out there that shoot 30p even in auto modes (applying short shutter speeds) and folks do not mind to watch those videos, 30p footage. Sometimes even with severe jello effect, picture tends to have a skew while panning due to rolling shutter, usually the cheaper camera, worse jello effect.

  11. ah ok. I found a video on youtube. Someone tries out his strobe light. Its only 480p. The videoframes somehow look weird when the strobe is fast. Its mixed with black frames. Is that what you mean, with missing frames? Do you see it too?

and this video is 720p and the strobe looks ok at 2:58

  12. No the word strobe is perhaps not correct to describe short shutter speed, sorry, the effect I mean is in the first clip, for example, right at the beginning, when there is a text crawling the screen from right to the left. You can see that it is not fluent. That is what I mean. When objects are not rendered fluently. It could be anything, a ball, person waving a hand, passing car, those movements would not be fluent shooting 30p with short shutter speed.

  13. Yes i see the not fluent text. But his video only is 480p. Is there a trick to make the text appear fluent? Because its just text that he made with the videosoftware..

  14. An excellent example of using fast shutter speeds creatively is "Saving Private Ryan."

The word "strobe" is being used in three different ways in this thread and it is still unclear what OP is trying to achieve or avoid. The best best way to figure out what's going to work is to experiment.

  15. It is generated by software but effect is the same. That is just an example.

It is explained here, shutter speed vs. frame rate:
    https://vimeo.com/blog/post/frame-rate-vs-shutter-speed-setting-the-record-str

While having 1/400, those fan blades rotating are not fluent.
The thing is, for example, while having 1/400 and 60p (not in that tutorial video, his example is most likely 30p) it is OK, because humans register 60p and it is fluent, but 1/400 and 30p we can clearly see that video is not fluent.
