I'm shooting video against a backdrop in an enclosed room, softbox lighting and need to have a backlight/hair light. The problem is that I can't use a dimmer because of the electrical hum it produces. (in the past I used a simple clip on shop light, with a bulb that I dimmed to what I needed) What should I be looking for, a certain wattage or brightness, etc? It needs to be able to be mounted to the ceiling or wall directly above/behind the subject being lighted.

It's a pretty small shooting area, 8' wide backdrop, subject is very close to the backdrop (I know, it's not a Hollywood production), lights are about 10 feet away mounted to ceiling, using two of these http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005NJIWYY/ref=pe_175190_21431760_M2T1_ST1_dp_1 with two bulbs on in each box.

Since the beginning of time, pros have been using spunglass, screens, frost and neutral density filters to cut down light levels. You can also use fewer bulbs in those fixtures.

Maybe something like this, itīs not too bright (considering your setup), has good control over the light it produces (with its barndoors and flood/spot focusing)

I definitely don't need anything that elaborate. That wouldn't actually work for me. I want something that I can easily attach to the wall or ceiling directly behind the subject so it can shine down and forward on his head and shoulders to separate him from the backdrop just a little bit so it's noticeable.
