A couple of years ago I switched from AT&T DSL to Charter cable for internet service and had Earthlink DSL before I had AT&T. My monthly cost with Charter jumped on the recent statement from $35 to $52, and I find neither AT&T nor Earthlink offer any ISP service in my area now. Google searches find no ISP service for my location other than Charter which means I'm stuck with Charter and whatever they decide to charge, i.e. short of going to satellite service that's even more costly and slower as well. Has anybody else seen this or know a solution to this issue?

I guess Verizon FIOS Internet is available in your area? You would probably know if it is. For what its worth I'll never subscribe to FIOS unless there is no other choice because I'm so annoyed by their aggressive sales tactics.

They offer some attractive introductory offers, but you really need to read the fine print carefully to see if they are worthwhile. Sometimes the price goes up incrementally over the duration of the contract and it isn't as good of a deal as you might think.

    Common most everywhere.

You have several options, but only one real choice.

    1) Charter
    2) cell service
    3) SAT
    4) dial up (possibly - but if DSL is not available, dial-up likely isn't either)

DSL service is many areas is no longer available as companies are doing away with copper services and support. And when it is, the cost is typically similar to your primary ISP for much less speed.

As for your current price, you likely changed from a promo price to the regular price. It appears that you should be getting the standard 60MB service, and that is the current normal price.

Can cell service be used for desktops and laptops, what's cell service cost, and how does cell service speed compare with Charter? SAT isn't feasible due to high cost and slower speeds, and dial up is way too slow. AT&T Uverse may someday reach my area, but it could be years away. I was paying $32 per month for AT&T DSL until I switched to Charter a couple of years ago at $30 per month, and it now looks like I'd done better to stay with AT&T DSL. I do still get unlimited calling in the US with Charter phone service for only $20 per month which is good, but it looks like I'm stuck with Charter internet until and unless Uverse becomes available, i.e. unless cell service is feasible.

4G LTE speed is between 5 and 12 Mbps (Megabits per second) and upload speeds between 2 and 5 Mbps, but what you get depends upon your location and carrier. Plans specify a data cap and pricing is based on the cap, but you may also pay for a fee for each connected device on top of that. As an example see http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/plans/mobileshare.html
