    anyone know of a sounder editor that can speed up a sound track exponentially ( its an old reel to reel dictaphone recording that starts off at right speed but then slows down on account of low battery)

    I don't know if these will do what you want them to do but you could try Audacity which is freeware, Goldwave which isn't free or Cooledit pro also not free.
    It's not important the problem be solved, only that the blame for the mistake is assigned correctly

    thanks but I don't think so - they speed/slow down at fixed rates
