How to associate IFO/BUP/VOB with WMP in Win 7?

I had to reinstall Win7 and now movies won't play in WMP. Everything I can find about file association methods in Win7 ignores the IFO,BUP, and VOB extensions. I used to be able to click on any of those files and it would open WMP. How can I make it do that again?

WMP is about the worst media player, why not opt for better players?

I find that getting WMP set up is a big ol' PITA but once it's set up it's fine. I've tried some others and haven't really found anything I like better.

Well, try for instance VLC player, I am sure that after trying it you will agree that this player is a lot better than the crappy old WMP player.

Well... I've used it off and on for years and don't really care for it. Not sure why. On the other hand, it's really stupid that I can't even open my video files in WMP because there doesn't seem to be a simple "File>Open" menu!! Maybe I'll try VLC again.
Any other recommendations?

I thought of that and I tried it several different ways, it didn't seem to do anything at all.

Why would you want to associate BUF and IFO to WMP ? It's not necessary to play DVD's.

Start->Default Programs->"Associate file type or protocol with a program" shows what default program is associated with an extension and allows users to change the default program assigned to it. If an extension isn't listed, then it isn't associated with any programs.

There is another way. Right-click on a VOB, IFO, or BUP file in Windows Explorer. Select "Properties" from the context menu. The "General" tab on the "Properties" window that appears has a button that allows setting or changing the program association. Did you try that?

Yes there is. Pressing and releasing the ALT key makes the menu appear.
