  1. Are there any websites or document with a good explaination of the Advanced Tab settings?
    Questions

1.Does this info for the source file need to be set? I'm converting DIVX files to a 480x480 MPG2 SVCD using 2pass VBR non-interlaced.

    2. Changing FIELD ORDER doesn't seem to make any difference to the outcome.

    3. Whats up with the Source Aspect Ratio? Every DIVX i've looked at with AVINFO has a 4/3 aspect ratio (640x480, 512x384, 320x240). So which one do i select, 1:1 vga and 4:3 display give the same results and on some conversions they stetch the video out horizontally. If i choose 4:3 NTSC it usually squishes the video horizontally and inserts black bars on both sides, but on others its the setting i need to use to keep the video the same.

Is there anyway to tell which Source Aspect Ratio to use before i encode? The trial and error method sucks with 2pass encoding.

    4. The other weird thing is if i use the SuperVideoCD (NTSC).mcf template, I get different sized video sometimes 480x480 sometimes 640x480. Whats up with that? Makes a big difference on my end file size.

TIA for any help i can get especially any for 3 and 4.

  3. Thanks for replying. But http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgencexplained.htm doesn't help with "Source aspect ratio". How is one to tell if it encoded 1:1 VGA, 4:3 525 line, 4:3 display, etc, to start with?

  4. rule of thumb - converting DivX to anything

set source aspect ratio to 1:1

    set output to 4:3

choose "Full Screen (Keep Aspect Ratio)"

if you get black lines it's because it's keep the aspect ratio so it displays properly on your 4:3 tv display
