From my limited experience I won't try to explain the differences but I have found CQ better quality and smaller file size than CBR, and I found very little quality difference between CQ and 2-pass VBR except that 2pass VBR takes much longer and has a larger file size (still not as large as CBR though).

Hopefully an 'expert' will give you a better answer.

  3. cq gives you a constant image quality it will therefore put morebps when more is needed to keep the same quality(a bit like vbr) cbr gives every frame the same amount of space to every frame no matter the amount of info contained in the frame(if a frame is a simple stick man with a white background is would have the same filesize as a frame that's a picture with lots of info) vbr will put more weight where there is mouvement so as to not get blockiness.
    I hope this helps...

  4. Yes this helps a little thanks....

So Constant Quality is better than 2-pass VBR and Constant Bitrate??

I have been encoding SVCD's with TPMGEnc and having really no luck making a movie even look any where close to DVD at all! Then I DLoaded off of kazaa a movie that has already been encoded into VCD and it was 10 times better then my SVCD's !!!!

    WHY!!!!

I have been usin CQ, slow motion search(for the best quality), and toolame as an outside audio converter! I use a template KingViper SVCD but I even change the CQ to HIGH and up the bitrate (I end up having to use 4 disc's for a movie) but I thought this would increase the quality but it doesn't!

Can anyone steer me in the right direction!! I want to make good SVCD's!!!!!

  5. CQ is only better than 2-pass VBR if it isn't capped (no max bitrate).
