  1. If I capture to 352x288 YUV2 25fps from S-Video in (from cam recorder 8 mm) there are a lot of frames drops, 50 in a segment of 150, but if I capture at 352x287 0 drops frames.

    Anybody can explain why?

    I use:

    Virtualdub or AVI_IO
Audio to 44Hz 8 bit mono
    Pentiun IV 1,7GHZ
    HD 40 Gb
    Pinacle PCTV
    ....

Usally I capture my own home video without problems, but in this case the master videocassete contents a segment with fast images and noise audio. Can it be the problem?

    Thanks

i have a suggestion. I also have a studio pctv and in virtual dub it drops frames fairly frequently. so i use AVI_IO with picvideo mjpeg, and i can capture an hour of video with these settings with no dorpped frames:
    Res:704 x 480
    Audio: 44.1Hz 16 Stereo
    Compression: Picvideo mjpeg Quality 20
    Frames: 29.97fps
color: YUV2 (RGB is a waste of space)

    my system is:
    1Ghz Tbird
    geforce2 ultra
    30gig 7200rpm ata100 drive(for system)
    30gig 7200rpm ata100 drive(for capture)
    studio pctv pro
Turtle beach santa cruz sound card
    384mb pc-133 ram

p.s. besure to defrag before you start capturing!!!

  3. Every time there is noise or gap in the video, you will loose a slew of frames. The video has to be clean and without drop-outs if you don't want to loose frames.

  4. I've forget to say that codec used is not important. The result is the same. I 've tryed Indeo 5.1, Huffyuv, PicVideo, ....

    Thanks for yours answers, but..

    monsoon01:

HD is defragmented, for capturing at 352x288 or 352x287

    skittelsen:

the video signal is so clean for 352x288 than for 352x287

Why 1 pixel (287 as opposed to 288), is so important for capturing whitout drops frames?

make sure that all stuff in your tray is close. try ctrl + alt + delete to see if anything is open. when i capture i only have explorer and cacheman open in there. here is another suggestion.....cacheman. this is a great utility for tweaking your memory and disk speeds and caches. its a great program, helps in capturing a lot.
