Pacific DVD750 VCD Problem

Help. As a total amateur I dont know whether i've got a dud player of can't set it up right.
I bought the 750 to specifically play VCDs recorded on CDRs, which is does BUT only in black and white. The players startup screen is also black and white but it plays DVDs in full colour?
I'm using the old style video connection (yellow cable with seperate audio) but have also tried it on SCART. There is nothing wrong with the disks because my sisters DVD1000 plays them no bother.

Can anyone help before it goes back to the shop(this is the second one i've had, i thought the problem was with the player, obviously not)

when you have the start dvd screen press setup on the remote then select video then change the setting that says auto to pal and voila of you go

i had same problem but could be any of 3 solutions.
1. change to pal
2. press your video/y button to cvbs
3. press setup and change screen size to letterbox
