Hi guys, anyone know about the RGPL databases in American Library service? This is a database of newspaper articles going back to the early 1900s, or later. The UK library services do not have this database that is commonplace in the USA libraries. what I would like to know is, how it is accessed? do you need to go to the library in person to view the online version? Does the library service have both ,paper and online versions.? all info on this topic welcomed, librarians in the UK have never heard of this index!

There are specialized libraries in the US that have what you want but you have to sign up or register. In my area there is a fee also to access that kind of data.
You might try to Google what you want.Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence -Carl Sagan -
There is a UK Newspaper Archive called British Newspapers on Line
http://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/?gclid=CK2h6M3WsLwCFZDKtAoddRAA2g. Sponsored (I think) by The British Library.
It is not free but you should always ask at your library.
Here is Wales, we have Welsh Newspapers online which IS free for all residents of Wales, sponsored by The National Library of Wales. -

Thanks guys, yes, I am interested in the American libraries. There is a copy in the British Library, paper edition, there is also an online version in Trinity college Dublin, they are a copyright library similar to the British library. Of course the New York Public library have it, only they no longer offer. (long term, over 3 months) oversea temporary registration, (they never really explained the ins and outs of accessing the databases,as the RGPL; ownership has changed hands and grown into a monster database. Ubfortunately my local university libraries do not have this database. The RGPL is probably the best research tool around for newspaper, mag, trade pubs, on all topics, if someones discovered, invented,or theorised about an issue, there is prpbably an article about it by an expert in that field. Even though I had access to use their library facilities at Trinity college I still had to go there and access the database, using a DVD provided by the library. I was wondering if its the same setup in America? I was hoping there might be an online direct link into the database, if you are registered with a library and have a code/PIN access to use the facilities?,it may not be able, from a technology point of view to do this with the complexity of the database? Anyway ,thanks guys any additional snippits about this database welcomed,Cheers
