First off I am new to blu ray ripping and I have done some research but I still have some questions.
My ultimate goal is to be able to back up by blu ray collection (including 3D blu rays) to my NAS and be able to serve the video around the house to easily view in any room, similar to Netflix or Kelidascape. (I am not willing to purchase Kelidascape). I would like to keep all of the original features of the disc, like the menu and special features, and I am not interested in losing any audio or video quality. I am not very concerned with storage space.
Here is what I already have:
-Drobo 5N for my NAS (populated with 4TB drives).
*My Drobo looks like it supports Plex but Plex does not seem to support BDMV or .iso formats.
-A capable Windows 8 gaming rig with a blu ray drive for ripping (and gaming)
*not directly connected to my TV.
-Every modern console for possible playback. PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii & Wii U. I am willing to purchase a new device for playback but I would like to avoid that if I can make one of my consoles work.
*I have considered a HTPC for this but I would prefer a setup that my wife can pickup the remote and use without me being there.
-Harmony touch remote. (Control4 or something similar may replace this in the future)
What I think I know:
-I think I would need to rip the blu ray into the original format of BDMV or rip as an .iso to keep the menus functional.
-Since I would like to easily play the files around the house BDMV may be the better format since the file does not necessarily have to be "mounted" to play. Do you agree?
-From what I have read it sounds like DVDFab (or soon to be BluFab) would be the best ripping software for ripping BDMV files.
*I do not have any software yet.
Here are my questions:
-What software should I use to rip my blu rays?
-If I rip my blu rays in BDMV are there any devices or players that support the format for streaming?
-Does AnyDVD rip to BDMV format?
-What issues am I going to run into with Ciniva?
-Should I scrap the idea of keeping the menu system and special features and go with .mkv files?
*If I go with .mkv does that work with 3D blu ray and lossless audio?
-What other recommendations do you have for me to achieve my ultimate goal?
Thanks in advance!
-Kevin

AnyDVDHD rip it to ISO, then get one of those Dune media players http://dune-hd.com/eng/products/full_hd_media_players that will read stored ISO, or BDMV from your Drobo 5N
EDIT: it is 1 year I used anyDVDHD last time, I do not remember exactly, but there was a check box if you wanted rip ISO so it starts playing main movie right away, ANYDVDHD was fixing navigation a bit, but not sure if it was only for DVD ISO or Blu-Ray ISO ...Last edited by _Al_; 23rd Mar 2014 at 11:29.

you might want to read this in regarding to blufab - http://www.myce.com/news/dvdfab-removes-dvd-and-blu-ray-ripper-from-blufab-70914/

The use of Cinavia is somewhat uncommon at present. Few studios other than Sony use it, and I don't think any studios that use it use it on every release. Only licensed PC software players (Cyberlink PowerDVD, ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre, or Corel WinDVD), and Blu-Ray players (including the PS3 and PS4) are Cinavia compliant. Other types of hardware and software media players don't respond to it.
