I'm looking into purchasing one of these..and was curious if I should even try. The system requirements are dual core and 2.0 ghz. My laptop has a dual-core processor but it's only 1.6ghz. Will these still capture and work ok? Or should I try to find something different to capture games? I don't wanna spend money..and it not work. Anyone tried something slower than a 2.0?

  3. Elgato will not run on your laptop (maybe for standard definition but definitely not for HD). The Hauppauge will work but you may not be able to use their software to view the video while capturing. You could use GraphEdit to build a capture graph that simply routes the incoming compressed A/V stream it writes it to a TS file.

With that you'll probably only see single digit CPU usage while capturing.

Alright will not be getting the elgato. May have to hold off until I get a better laptop or desktop. Are there any other game capture devices that would work? Do you know?

  5. The Avermedia Live Gamer Portable (linked to by zapster) can work as a standalone device and record directly to an SD card.

Elgato will even capture from older consoles which were pre 480i ... snes, commodore 128, sega ... its your best choice.

Like all things of the past, support drops off eventually.

Consider if your into purchasing one of these, if budget allows, you can pickup a system which exceeds the pc requirements out of ebay for around the same price as the capture device ... a dell e8400 + win7 generally goes for around $200.00.

And welcome to the forum Kous52
