  1. Hi,

Are there any windows 7 video players that can run without being installed? I am going to be out of town working remotely next week with my work laptop and don't have the administrative privileges to install software. How can I watch AVIs or MKVs without installing a video player? I would like to watch some movies without bringing two laptops.

    Thanks

PortableApps is a good source. They should also have VLC, if desired.

  3. Thanks for the suggestion, I just took a look at it and saw that they have VLC on there.

However, it seems like the portableapps platform has to be installed? I wouldn't be able to install that either

MPC-HC and MPC-BE both have portable versions and you can find them in the tools section. I never liked VLC so can't comment on that one.

there is also ffplay (part of ffmpeg package) and mplayer.

these are command line tools. but you can put a short cut to your desktop and drag video files to it and it will play.

ffplay seems to be the most versitle, plus it is super fast startup, plays immediately. also, you can click inside the video window, a sort of crude way to rw/ff, but not important if you are just watching a movie.
