  1. ...I've tried everything I can think of. Different brand CDRs... Renaming MPEG2 to MPEGAV... I've used Nero, EasyVCD and CDRWin to no avail. According to the compatibility chart, the Sony DVP-S7700 should play SVCDs, but all I get is the dreaded C:13.00 error message. VCDs are not a prob, and at least the SVCDs are being recognised. I even tried the sample SVCD cue/bin supplied here... no dice. I'm at my wits end.

Can someone PLEASE help me out?

    Thank you for any assistance!

  2. you tried cd-rw's ?

my sony dvp 550 refuses to play any vcd ( it does not support svcd ) unless it's on a cd-rw. took me a while ( and then when I found this forum it pretty much confirmed my findings ) to realize that.

  3. My DVD player doesn't like CD-RWs... but yours prob does... it all depends on the lasers. If your model is the one I saw in the list, then it should play SVCDs (if they are on CD-RWs). You might want to check it out.

  4. nope it does not play svcds, thats one reason I got my Pioneer 440, as it plays everthing I have thrown at it including a vcd based on the KWAG template ( 352x480 mpeg1 x 44khz vbr up to 2250 )

Your problem is known of the brand you use : SONY.
Sony usually doesn't allow you to play CDR's (because they didn't build any player with dual-laser heads). This is a strategy of Sony; it's got to do something with copyrights etc.

I had a Sony too as first dvd-player. I had to buy another player to be able to play cdr's : now I also got a Pioneer (which strategy is to allow to play cdr's always).

Me too, and the problem right now is that I can't convince my wife that we have to sell the Sony at a loss and buy a new one
