NEC dvd_rw 25000a 1.06

Hi, just re-installed XP on my desktop, upto SP3 and the above DVD rewriter will only recognise DVDs as CDs.

I've installed Nero 6, but still I cannot play or burn DVDs.

I have Imgburn, which does recognise the discs as DVDs, but the writer won't play.

Any ideas?

Also, just added an external DVD writer and thats was recognised as CD recorder, but is burning a DVD through burnaware fine.

Best guess - bad luck with the timing and the DVD laser is dead in your burner but the CD laser still works, producing exactly what you see. If I'm correct then you'll have to replace the drive. If you've actually got a NEC then it's pretty old and it certainly could have had the DVD laser die.

The fact that many of your motherboard components are not working at all, as described in your other thread, just maybe MIGHT have something to do with this problem.

Fix that first.

Ah yes. The old "I'm going to leave pertinent information about my problem" gambit. Well played, LabanB, well played. For future reference LabanB, you can't count on forum members to read all your threads. You should have mentioned the motherboard issue in your first post instead of making this look like a simple software re-installation.
