Blu-ray playback issue

Hi,

I am experiencing a very strange issue with the Blu-ray back up for a Cirque Du Soleil shows. The bluray backup is accessible from the HDD in my OPPO BDP 103 but when i burn the folders on a disc it refuses to play. The back up has all the folders and on HDD playback , the whole menu and everything is accessible as if being played from a disc. Please help.

What program are you using to burn the file?If it's not burned with udf 2.5 then it will not play properly,use imgburn to burn the folder.

Also what brand and type of discs are you burning to? BD-R DL and BD-R LTH may have playback problems on some BD players and some brands of those types of BD discs are better than others.

Using imgburn to create an image and alternatively drag and drop the BDMV & Certificate folders , but to no avail. To avoid coasters have using Verbatim BD-RE (Single Layer) & TDK BD-RE (Dual Layer) discs

I'm skeptical about the TDK discs, but that's probably not your issue. I'm guessing that either you're not burning UDF 2.5 as suggested or your source Blu Ray discs are actually from a region other than where you live and there's some kind of issue related to that.

This is fairly new but we've had reports that some Blu Ray discs are actually set up to only play in specific countries within the region they are coded for. For example, some Criterion Blu Rays will not play outside of the USA and Canada, even in other region A places. Little seems to be known about this issue at present. What program was used to rip the discs?

Also your blu-ray player might not like reading rewritable blu-ray.My sony won't play bd-re but plays dvd-rw.

OPPO reads BD-RE discs and i have tried them myself.The program used for ripping was AnyDVD HD and three folders namely BDMV, Certificate and Sly were created.I burned with and without Sly but nothing. Surprisingly the Folder having BDMV & Certificate runs ok with menu and all from HDD backup

Just to add, OPPO 103 failed to play "The Longest Day" bluray, got stuck after 6 seconds but it played fine on my Panasonic bluray player. Are the two problems of a similar origin?

Do you want or help or not? Because it seems to me that you do not.

I told you that there is some possibility that Blu Ray discs may have country by country specific restrictions within a region. You have not provided any info about whether these source BD discs are for the USA/Canada or not.


johns0 told you that BD-RE is problematic and it is. Yet you insist that your Oppo can play these discs, despite providing an example where the Oppo failed and the Panasonic succeeded. Also, I warned you that some brands work better than others.


At this point maybe you just need to take it up with Oppo as I sort of feel like you're not really listening to anybody here.

The player , source disk and the writing media are all from the US , so the region code issue does not arise.



I have burned many other disks using imgburn , the same media (the same rewritable disk) cause i do not want coasters and they did absolutely fine on my OPPO, so there seems to be no problem with the BD RE media. JohnO was skeptical about the reading capability so whats the harm in telling that the OPPO can handle it.


Additionally, the Longest Day bluray is an Original disc so there is a difference with the ripped bluray. I also had mentioned that i used dual and single layer bluray media so its not one brand.I hope your skepticism does not spill over to Verbatim now.Moreover these disks have been used many a times for these back up projects.




May be its a firmware upgrade issue but then the existing processing can handle a folder structure from HDD and not from disk. Thats really strange considering the fact that it may have encountered the same encryption.



I have provided you with all the details and answered all your queries. Contacting OPPO is an option that is always there and which does not need the forum. It seems you are in the same boat cause you are expressing your skepticism more than providing solutions.

This is just a suggestion, But are you sure the Cirque Du Soleil shows aren't cinavia protected? If so the Oppo player won't play it.

No i am not sure of it, is there a way to check it by analyzing the file structure or is it more complicated than that? Very good suggestion anyway , thanks

I mostly use DVDFab, When the program is done scanning the disk it comes up and tells you the disk is cinavia protected and won't play with PS3 that has firmware 4.0 or later, Also from what I read here on this site is that any Bluray player made after February 2012 has cinavia on it, You might also try google search to check for titles with cinavia protection.
