I've tried ripping some episodes of a TV show off of a DVD.
I tried several programs (including DVD Decrypter and AnyDVD with CloneDVD2) and the same problem manifests itself. No error messages in the programs and the VOB files are the right size, but the first five files are cut short (should be ~22 min long, post transcode they range from ~3-5 min long) with all the other files remaining the right length.
I really don't know what to do anymore. Is there some way figure out what's going on?

Since you have anydvd here is what I suggest - right click the anydvd icon while the disc is in the drive and simply click rip video dvd to harddisk. Than you'll get EXACTLY what is on the disc. I'm not sure how you ripped with it but that is the step that will ensure you get everything on it and intact.
Alternately you can have anydvd open in the system tray and run dvd shrink. Then go into preferences and select dual layer or 8.5gb as your preference so it won't shrink. It will copy the disc intact - anydvd will be doing the actual decrypting while dvdshrink rips it.

Just for devils advocate here the disc isn't damaged at all is it? There aren't any scratches or anything are there? If so that might be a different matter all together.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
The first thing I notice is your statement of "VOB"
A single VOB does not contain 1 entire episode or chapter of a movie.
Do what yoda said, rip the entire dvd to your hard drive.
If that is what you are doing, then you need to be more specific on what you are doing afterwards to come to the conclusion that the episodes are missing so much video.
Just trying to play a single VOB ? -

What the poster should do is use a software player like mpchc and open the video_ts folder and play it like a dvd but off the harddrive. Than you should be able to tell if the whole disc was copied properly.
If the poster is relying on windows explorer to report an individual vob file correctly that probably won't be perfectly accurate. Only using a software player in dvd mode would be the surefire way to verify the correctness and completeness of the rip.
Plus we still don't know for sure if there was any corruption in the rip. If the disc is scratched or damaged somehow it might possibly be an incomplete rip.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
It's a false alarm. He decided they were too short based on something Windows told him:

But when I check the information on the VOBs length they are far too short.Last edited by manono; 26th Oct 2013 at 23:47.
