    Hi
I wonder if that is any free good converter that use GPU (I was thinking about Nividia)

To convert to different format and from DVD/BD folder to MP4/MKV.

I was thinking it can be fun to see how fast it really do to use GPU instead of CPU.

  2. If you have a quad core or better computer you'll get faster and higher quality encoding using x264 at the very fast preset. Intel's Quick Sync encoder (requires Sandy Bridge or newer Intel CPU) is faster but the quality is still lower than x264 at veryfast.

There's a version of Handbrake that supports Quick Sync. I think they have support for other GPUs too.

+1 for QuickSync. HandBrake using QS on my i3-3225 (HD4000) HTPC is quicker than using all 8 threads of my i7-2600 for similar quality.

  4. I have to disagree about the "similar quality" claim. I've never seen Quick Sync deliver quality as good as x264 at the veryfast preset at the same bitrate. It always takes Quick Sync a lot more bitrate to deliver the same quality.

  5. @jagabo: simply use a higher bitrate (for both) and gpu based encoders produce the same quality as software encoders Personally I think gpu based encoding has it's use.

Sure. Or leave your video un(re)compressed and you'll get even better quality, and save a lot of time.

  7. sure, but adding lets say 30% more bit rate and using uncompressed data output is probably only something you consider
