Hi, I was wondering does anybody know if its possible to connect a dvd player to a Panasonic DMR-E20 (who can copy to Dvd-R) and make copies of dvd movies to Dvd-R?. Was just curious since I can copy video films onto Dvd-R using the Panasonic.

Help on how its done if its doable greatly appreciated

  2. No you can't. The DMR will detect macrovision and give you a screen that the material is copy protected.

You need an external Time Base Corrector between your DVD player and the DMR. That way you can copy it.

  3. You can get around it.

Its not the Macrovision so much (as that is designed to foul up automatic gain control on VCRs,... its the CGMS/A digital protection.

Get an Apex 1500. Flash the firmware. I've heard it works beautifully.

  4. Opps!, that's what I meant. Anyway, the DMR will detect any type of copy protection. Either from DVD or VHS tapes.

What I am really using the DMR-E20 now is to record the Stargate SG-1 series on DVD-RAM, and then read the disk on my PC on a Panasonic DVD-R/DVD-RAM drive to convert the episodes to VCD.

It's excelent for that. I also do the same for HBO movies.

So will it still not copy from a DVD player with Macro off?

Has anyone transfered Hi8 to DVD-R with it? Does it play back in most DVD players?

Is 1 hour the most you get on DVD-R?

Can you use any cheap DVD-R's?

If you have a DVD player with macro OFF, then yes, it will record.

    Thanks

I was just reading the review I have in an old What Video Mag and its says about different recording times with SP/LP/EP.

Does it do all these with DVD-R's as well as DVD-Ram discs?
