Opinion on DVD-RW and DVD+RW

I will be purchasing a DVD writer in the near future can anyone recomend a decent brand?. I've heard that DVD+RW is better because it has more features than DVD-RW but a lot of people have said that it has compatibility issues with a lot of DVD players, is this true?.

OK, i will make the question easier, is the PHILIPS DVD228 the best of the bunch?. Please reply someone.

Yes, go with Philips. I already have DVD+RW 208 and I like it, even it doesn't write to DVD+R. I like it better than HP, Ricoh, or Sony. 228 will write to DVD+R.

DVD+RW does not have more features, but compatibility is an issue, for that I'ld say go for DVD-R /-RW, if not for the reason that DVD-R blanks are readily availibe at a low price, they compatability issue is better with DVD-R / -RW, and you can still buy DVD-RW to preview your burns before final burn to a DVD-R. True DVD+RW has the speed advantage in writes, on DVd+RW media, but I can burn a DVD-R ( full disc ) in Nero in about 40 mins or so.

Wait!!! Don't buy for a few weeks. DVD+R/RW drives are just coming out. Find out how compatible the new drives are. DVD+R should be more compatible, but you can't really trust the companies that sell them on the compatability issue. The DVD plus RW forum ling listed above will report on compatibility as quickly or quicker that anyone.

DVD+RW does have a speed advantage and some other technical advantages, but is not very compatible with the majority of DVD players out there. Wait to see it the addition (finally) of DVD+R solves that
