    Hello,

I am new here and I have tried searching this website for the solution for my problem but I haven't came across one yet . I have a movie (it's a serie and it's just this one episode) where the video and subtitles work on my PS3, but the audio doesn't. By the way - I am using a LACIE external hard drive to play my movies. I pressed the display button on the controller, and it shows: Dolby Digital, 1 ch, 32 khz. And so I checked the video info on my computer.

When I checked the video properties on my computer this is what it said:

    Frame width & height: 624x352
    Data rate: 1474kbps
    Total bitrate: 1666kbps
    Frame rate: 29fps
    Bit Rate: 192 kbps
    Channels: 2(stereo)
    Audio sample rate: 48 khz

I checked AVIrecomp to double check and it gave me this:

    Video:
    MPEG-4 codec: Xvid 64
    Qpel: no
    GMC: no
    Quant. matrix: default (H.263)
    Bitrate: 1466kb/s
    resolution 624x352
    aspect ratio: 1.773
    frames: 120618
    Fps: 29.970

    Audio:
    Type: ac3
    Bitrate: 192 kb/s
    Bitrate mode: CBR
    Size: 92.11 MB
    Channels: 2 (stereo)
    Sample rate: 48000 Hz

I am not sure why the PS3 and my PC are reading the information differently. I really need help

even those 2 show different info 624x352 and 634x352. the codec shouldn't show up as xvid 64 either. looks like it's just a messed up video.

  3. In addition to reply above, it also depends on how ac3 audio is encoded. Accorindg to info posted by OP, video will not be played in stand alone player as well.

    Thank you for the replies:

@aedipuss: I apologize. The resolution was a mistake on my part. it is actually 624. I checked the other episodes of the same movie, and they all show up as xvid 64 and ac3 in Avirecomp. Those other episodes' audio plays on my PS3 and it shows 2 ch on the display instead of 1 ch.

@enim: I tried reencoding the audio to MP3 with Avidemux but whenever I transfer it to my external hard drive, it would play on my computer but wouldn't play on my PS3;it just says corrupted data.

can you open it in something like avidemux or mediacoder? if so you might be able to re-mux it by selecting no re-encoding of video and audio and then writing it out as a new file. if that doesn't work re-encode video and audio to a new avi.

Yes I can open it with Avidemux... what do you mean by "selecting no re-encoding of video and audio and then writing it out as a new file"? Do you mean to select the copy drop down tab for both audio and video and just save?

I finally am able to play the show on my PS3 - video and audio and subs working.

I extracted the audio from the video using AVS Video Converter. It converts audio either to MP3 or WMV, I think, so I chose MP3.

Then i used Avidemux 2.5 to synch the video, audio and subs together. I didn't use Avirecomp (which is my go to program) to synch the subtitles for fear of having a corrupt data, again. Also, I had the version 2.6 before but because 2.6 does not support srt as txt files, I had to download the 2.5 version.

I can't believe this whole thing requires so much work!! But after a lot of trial and error, it finally worked. Thanks again guys
