Is it possible to rip a region2 PAL DVD and then convert it to svcd (to play back in widescreen NTSC?).
I'd like to experiment with this, but I was just wondering if anyone has done it. There are several European DVDs I'd like to purchase and would rather not spend the money for a codefree player AND a converter (we're talking $800+ just to watch a $30 DVD).
If it is possible, should I use DVD2SVCD and TMPG?
Thanks,
Bob

Yes, First rip it with smart ripper then use dvd2avi then use Tmpg you should use ntsc template in Tmpeg. that is it

DVD2SVCD does that conversion quite nicely -- but you might be interested to know that your DVD player will play PAL and NTSC SVCD's just fine.
It's only with DVD's that there is a problem with the two formats - create a small SVCD and test it - I'm sure it will work
so you just need to convert it to SVCD and probably best to leave it as PALyour pal,
