  1. A newby. I check my codec's with K-Lites tweak tool and it said my "CamPack Terminator Filter" was broken and I should delete it. The strange thing is I have not been able to come across an answer as to what is or how I got it. What is even odder, It did not come with K-lite because I installed their latest version and did another log check and there was no such filter.
Any of you knowledgable people have any ideas
    Cheers

Apparently is a DirectShow filter whose filename is "vficef.dat"

Please find the file with Windows Explorer, right-click it, and tell us what the Properties tab says about the filter.

I'm not finding much of anything about it. It might be related to Microsoft, and seems to be also related to gaming programs. I would just delete it and see if any program objects.

Possibly one of our members is familiar with the file, though. (EDIT: Thanks, El Heggunte)
    And welcome to our forums.

  4. Esteemed greetings and thank you for your knowledgable replies. I was just puzzled where it came from. I do not play computer games (well except for chess and I have tested these programs to see if they are still functional to which they seemed to be), I have a playstation for games. By a process of elimination I ruled out it coming with k-Lite. All my DVD related software is still working but thanks to the fine whizzo chap who identified it as vficef.dat I was able to identify it as possibly relating to i-Funbox and possibly being related to Direct_X 8.1.0.0. I did download i-funbox but uninstalled when it said my old ipod was incompatable.
As everything on my Windows 7 appears to be working still, I can not kill anything major by following the Codec Tweaking utilities advice and deleting it.
    Thank you

A file dump filter used for collecting data about application faults using directx components.

Without this data cannot be collected about the event or submitted ... do not delete a system file period.

  6. ok. If i need it, how do i get it back (that is without system restore)?
    (Update: I found this:
This file belongs to product DirectX 8.1 Sample and was developed by company Microsoft Corporation. This file has description File Dump Filter (Sample).
If that is the case and it belongs to DirectX 8.1, I have Window 7 which uses DirectX 11? I ran a DirectX diagnostic and that came back fine...Now I am confused.
