Hi I'm new to this forum, and not very technical, so bear with me!

I have a Panasonic DMR-Ex78 2009 model set top box and recorder which is a 2009 model. I bought this because it had a scart connection which our old Loewe television had. It does not have a usb port. It does have a HDMI AV out port (?)

My television has finally died, and now my concern is access to stuff on the hard drive.

    Questions:
Can I get some sort of connector to my computer to do this?
    or
Will I be able to purchase a new tele that I will be able to connect to this hard drive? And if I can, what do I need to know?

    All advice welcome.

  2. Most new televisions are HDTV flat screen LCD or Plasma panels.

All of these sold since 2009 have HDMI input connections (it is the current standard for connecting DVD players, BluRay players, laptops, phones, tablets and video game consoles to newer TVs).

Since your Panasonic has an HDMI output, no problem: think of HDMI as simply an updated "HDTV" version of SCART. You would need an HDMI cable: these are not expensive from web dealers, but some of the "name" retail shops mark up the prices exorbitantly. Shop carefully: a good cable should not cost more than $10 (US).

You would connect your Panasonic DMR-EX78 HDMI output to any of the HDMI input sockets on the TV. Usually you'd choose the input labeled "HDMI 1" so you would then just select that input on the TV remote control when you want to view recordings on the DMR-EX78.

Antenna connections would remain as they were.
