  1. I am looking for a calculator that I can use to project VCD filesize by entering length, bitrate, audio info, and # of discs, etc.

I need this for VCD not SVCD, XVCD, DVD, or any other type of DV media. I am looking for one specifically that I can use to project VCD filesizes. I know of the formula posted @ TMPEG site. Being lazy I'm just hoping someone has put that into a little app or GUMP.

Thank you for any help any of you can give.

lazy indeed Just use any bitrate calculator to calculate the filesize. Keep in mind, that VCD bitrates are fixed. Rule of thumb is 1 minute = 10 MB.

  3. I tried the one @ VCDhelp.com but it doesn't project filesize, just bitrate
the one for DVTool is just plain confusing. Any other you might suggest? Yeah I'm lazy...
    But I'm honest about it

The reason I'm looking for one is so that I can play with different bitrates to fit movies (cartoons) on single disc for my daughter. I'm trying to get as much bitrate(picture quality) as possible. Doing 10-20 calculations to figure out how to squeeze that last bit into each movie gets rather maddening.

    1150+224=1374 kbps x 60 / 8 / 1024 = 10.06 MB / minute
Use FitCD to calculate it more exactly.
You can not use different bitrates for VCD. If you want to increase the bitrate to fill the CD to its edge you will end with XVCD. A bit is a bit, no matter if you calculate the filesize of a VCD, XVCD, SVCD, DivX or whatever, so you can use all calculators.

    toomey,

There is no reason whatever so ever, to calculate the file size on a true VCD formated MPEG1 file; that is a standard and not a variable.
Sounds to me like you are instead looking to try and fit any given lenght of movie, onto just 1 CD and come as close as possible to that - so you don't waste valuable space and bitrate on the CD ?!?
...if so, then you'll need a bitrate calculator ya.
