If you are in Australia and you bought it in Australia....contact LG and maybe they can make it region free for DVD. Australia is the ONLY country where this COULD happen.

  3. Thank you for your quick reply. I did buy it in Australia and I did ring LG but they refused to help saying it was illegal to do so and I can only use dvd's that are made for use in the Australian region only (I believe it to be region 4) which of course was really helpful seeing that most of my dvd's, like any one else, have been bought on line

It is supposed to be "law" in Oz....manufacturers must be able to unlock the region for you. Unless that law has changed already....I'd keep calling.

One thing that is against you (I just noticed it) is that it is a Home Theater System. LG may be partly telling you the truth.....I have never seen a hack for a Home Theater System......EVER.

Keep trying as suggested. The story we keep hearing over and over is that Aussies and Kiwis have laws that forbid manufacturers from refusing to unlock players for DVD playback. It could be that over a weekend you simply spoke to someone who doesn't know anything. We've had recent reports of people in Australia getting various players unlocked, but as hech54 points out, speciality players like home theater systems, DVD/VCR combos, and portables have always been almost impossible to unlock.

  8. sent email to LG, reply was - do not maufacture Multi/Region Free players in Australia due to standard specifications, nor are they able to supply a code to change it and while it may be possible to make the unit Multi Region, it will affect warranty

Damn, LG must hate you. We've never had an Aussie report what they told you - ever. In fact, we just within recent months have had multiple posts from Aussies who reported contacting various manufacturers, all of whom provided codes for them to make their players region free. I don't remember which manufacturers though. LG is supposed to be one of the easier ones to unlock too in general, but as stated, specialty players are hard to unlock. You may not ever get a code from any source that works. I remember one recent post where the Aussie poster reported that the manufacturer offered to unlock the player for free if they would ship it to them to do it. Do keep in mind that nobody we've had report success had a home theater system. Maybe they are just lying to you because they can't unlock home theater systems and just want you to go away. Maybe the law changed. I don't live in Australia so it's not in my interest to research your law and try to find out the status of it. But you might look for an Aussie video forum to ask in. We have some Aussie members, but not a lot of them. The ones we have generally don't participate a lot.

Maybe someone, somewhere will report a code that will work for you, but accept the possibility that you will never be able to unlock it.

You might want to read this.
    http://blog.aimersoft.com/are-region-free-dvd-players-legal/

It states that legally in Australia the manufacturers are NOT forbidden from unlocking DVD players by any trade agreements with the US (in fact, it cites language that specifically allows players to be unlocked) but there also is no law that actually requires manufacturers to produce unlocked or unlockable players. LG's reply may imply that an unlock code does exist, but they're not going to make it easy by telling you. If it's never possible to unlock your player, that would appear to not violate any Aussie law based on the above blog.
