    hello everyone,

    i hope it's alright to ask such a question here since my problem involves video and audio issues with my home theater system.

    i have a SONY Bravia LCD with HDMI port,Sony DVD Home Theatre System - DAV-DZ777 and Sony Playstation 3...

    here's the specs for the home theatre system..i only copied the important details regarding the audio...

    my question is,i want to connect my ps3 to my LCD TV and i want the sound to come out through the home theater system,not the television internal speakers.how do i do that?what cables should i buy?? someone said i should get optical cables..are they same like HDMI cables??? any suggestions would greatly be appreciated..thanks in advance..

    HDMI carries both video and audio, so that should be the connection of choice, except that your amplifier, as an all-in-one unit, has no HDMI in. This means you are limited to component in if you want to run the video and audio through the amplifier. You can use the optical out on the PS3, however you are limited to a 5.1 downmix instead of True-HD if you do this.

    I have my PS3 hooked up via HDMI direct to the TV (my amplifier has no HDMI - too old) and optical to the amplifier for audio. Note also, on the PS3 audio is HDMI or optical, not both. If you hook up an optical connection the audio is not sent through the HDMI cable. In your case I would connect the PS3 directly to the TV using HDMI, and the audio to the amplifier using optical.
