I've always been a Canon fan, but when it comes to HD video Canon really lags behind. Their G10, G20, and soon the G30, are ridiculously overpriced for what you get. None have 1080p60 until the G30 comes out, and that's $1699 !!! Yikes !!!

So I went down to my local BestBuy store looking for a deal, and they had a Sony HDR-PJ710V floor model marked down to $669+tax, so I grabbed it. That's the #2 prosumer HandyCam. The top model is still around a grand, and I don't need the extra bling.

My experience so far is that this puppy shoots 1920X1080 p60 that's way better than any Canon T3i video. And I figured out why.

The people getting the movie quality stuff out of a Canon are shooting live into an HDMI uncompressed recorder. They're not using the whole camera, just the optics.

The T3i is a great still camera, but just not recording great video. Maybe it's their fakkakta codecs. I don't know.

I normally wouldn't buy a Sony HandyCam, but they've made vast progress over Canon. My new Sony even has exposure zebras, and focus highlighting. And it will track the focus during video by just touching the screen on the subject.

It even has a map and projector built in, but no wifi blingy. Anyway, who needs to control a camcorder from an ipod? That's stupid. This thing even plays pre-canned loop music during playback.

And as a lucky bonus, I have a Sony conversion wide angle lens (1.6) from an old Sony camcorder, and it FITS via free adaptor included w/ the camcorder. That was a nice touch Sony. You respect my money. True story, swear to heaven.

So to "Tree", and others, I did post a thread raving about the Canon G20/30, and claiming to be in envy of it. Well I reverse myself on that. Hehehe.

BTW, Sony Software is spamming me every 5-7 days with new deals, offers, etc., seems their clearing house for something new, like 4K.
