Hello. What I want to do is rip SD dvd movies, mainly a tv series, for instance, into a video file, and then add them all or at least most of them to a blu ray disc and that way they'll all be on one disc. Is this possible? And if so, I currently have as an option to rip, xilisoft ultimate dvd ripper 5, or Nero Recode in nero 11, although that one's being weird about the dvds, so I don't think I'll use that one. Can anyone advise on what settings would be good or if I'm going about this the wrong way? I'll likely use Nero Video to author the blu ray because it's pretty straightforward.

OK. Fair enough. I've figured out that you can import the .vob files in there, so that's good and I don't need to convert. But a big question is, if the blu ray setting says the quality will be excellent, i.e. I haven't had to compress anything, will the blu ray be OK with these files being SD? In other words, will it play back well on my BD player? Or will it probably look bad?

The vob files do not need to be re-encoded if they are full resolution dvd video. Are you certain that Nero will not re-encode them?

There are free tools for doing this, including MultiAVCHD. Though I've found that the blu ray output from MultiAVCHD isn't 100% compatible in all blu ray players or blu ray software media players, it works for the vast majority of people.

And I worked out a way of doing this with Vob2Mpg, AVStoDVD and DVD2BD Express. If you want the guide for it, let me know.

  5. Try this: Author DVD with whatever DVDLabPro, or any authoring that will allow you to put larger volume than DVD specs dictate (4.3 GB) and then use DVDtoBD Express freeware to author BDMV out of your previously created VIDEO_TS. DVDtoBD does it automatically, no recompression, and it keeps menu.

    oh, Kerry56 mentioned this also...
