If I remember correctly Vegas' "studio RGB to computer RGB" expands the luma from 16-235 to 0-255. You can do that with VirtualDub's levels filter. Set the Input Levels to 16 at the low end, 235 at the high end.
If it's the other way around, use the Brightness/Contrast filter. Use it first, before any conversion to RGB. Brightness=7, Contrast=81 is close. Unfortunately, the granularity of the contrast setting is too large to get closer. And you can't see the numeric values on the dialog that adjust them. You have to go back to the main Filter dialog to see the values.Last edited by jagabo; 29th Jul 2013 at 19:07.

Note, I added some more details to my previous post. The problem is when you are importing YUV video. Usually the first thing VirtualDub is convert the video to RGB using a rec.601 matrix. That crushes super darks and super brights. The only filter I know of that will adjust the levels while they are still YUV is Brightness/Contrast. That's the only way to convert 16-235 YUV levels to 16-235 RGB levels (retaining super blacks Y<16, and super brights Y>235). If the video is converted to RGB even before filtering (some video codecs will do that) you're screwed.

What is your source video? What container and codecs? How are you getting it into VirtualDub?
