I was wondering if anyone knows any way to retain the 5.1 audio of a DVD in an SVCD. I have found one way that requires you to use linux to do the converting.... Does anyone know any other way? Thanks.

Theres no other practical way. However, let's say you went the Linux route and encoded your audio for a 5.1 SVCD. Do you have a decoder to parse the channels correctly to your home theater speakers?

What receiver do you have that has mpeg audio multichannel decoding?? Im trying to compile a list.

Uhm, I'm not sure what you mean. Don't nearly all recievers have multi-channel support?
-
yes most have multichannel decoding support for dolby digital (ac3) or DTS...but not for multichannel mpeg audio, thats a different beast all together...very few players support mpeg multichannel.

For what its worth, I'm sure a few of the newer Pioneer AV Receivers do MPEG Audio decoding, at work don't have the info handy.......

Yes, that is all SVCD supports, there is no AC3 or DTS support when using SVCD. There is no multichannel support at all when using VCD. Trust me, most people who have come down this path for multichannel SVCD who happen to have a receiver that will decode, soon say it isnt worth the trouble/time you have put in in order to create the multichannel mpeg.

As far as I know, there is no need for the AV Receiver to decode MPEG sound. Most DVD players have the MPEG logo printed on their front panel and are able to decode multichannel MPEG. Therefore, the next step is to connect the 6 channel output (5.1 decoded output) from the DVD to the AV Receiver 6 channel analog input (RCA) and it should work
My question is if anyone knows whether the multichannel MPEG tool that only runs in Linux can be ported to Windows.
Cheers,
Luis
