I have 3 working dvd recorders, all differ in age and make. They are:

    • Panasonic DMR-E30
    • LG DRT389H
    • Philips DVDR3480/05

I wonder if I could count on you kind fellas for advice on which one to keep!!! Preferbly with reasons why!

    Many thanks guys.

This may not effect you(living in the UK) but the '02 E30 has a black level bug for N. American use, other than that it's a very old DVDR and like all pre '05 Panasonics only record full D1 resolution in SP and faster.
I'm not a big fan of LG DVDRs mainly because of reliability but if it's a newer model it may be a decent choice and lastly I'm not to familiar with the Philips models so I won't comment on it.
Actually I believe all the models you listed are basically only full resolution in SP and faster but I know the Panasonic being so old will not do thumbnails oh and also only records to -R and RAM discs(no + or DL media support). Again if the LG is newer I may steer you towards it.

Well the LG, if I read the spec correctly, is the only one from the 3 that will upscale over hdmi.

If you have a HDTV(or thinking of getting one) then that is the only one you would need.

    Just my 2 cents.

Just an fyi I'd keep at least 2 so if one fails you have a backup.

Also unless storage is it a premium why are you getting rid of them? If you have offers for them I understand that. Otherwise like I said keep 2 for a fail safe.

    Thanks for the replies guys!

@jjeff: Yes the LG has HDMI which could be useful but I do have a PS3 and a modded original Xbox which can upscale fine. I quite liked the E30's use of RAM discs as editing with it is easy and hassle free. But it is old!

@DB83: Fair enough. I do have an HDTV.

@yoda313: Thats a good point. But which 2nd one? Ive think Ill keep the LG. The Phillips seems a little cheap and even tho the Panny is old, it does seem like a quality machine. Guess Ill do sum real life tests on each and see.

    Cheers all.

Part of me says keep the newest of the bunch and the next newest to ensure longevity. However if this "feel" of yours is substantial than go with your gut and go with the "better" one that has more heft to it.

And testing wouldn't hurt as you mentioned.
