Hello, I have a survellance system and I have a desktop PC to record and save the files, which I can run normally on that PC, but I can't play my DVR recorded videos on any other PC, I already have K-lite codec pack updated and still can't run it, I tried VLC and installed other codec packs with no success.
The media info I get from Media player classic for the recorded videos is as follows:
---------------------------------------------

Format settings, BVOP : No
Format settings, QPel : No

Frame rate : 12.500 fps
Color space : YUV

I would much appreciate any help that can make me run these videos on my desktop.

Dump the 'codec packs', if you can - they're a bunch of crap. Good luck with that... Download MPC_HC and try that. Only download the codecs, from their original source, for the codecs you need. I recommned MPC_HC since it's a fully contained media player. No need for any external crap 99% of the time.
I don't use VLC but it should work as well based on feedback here. You could also post a small sample for others to look at.
Sorry, but you're in a world of hurt with those codec packs.Have a good one,

It may be possible that players choke on that odd fps.
Upload a sample clip here and let us take a look at it.
But as my firend above states it could just be a case of your system being compromised by the codec packs. One is bad enough but installing others could do unknown damage. -
Yep. Post a sample video. You can try makesample and make a short sample from one of your mp4s. Attach it when post(upload files/manage attachments).

About the conflict that may could happen due to the multiple codec packs, I already removed them and tested to view on a third laptop which only has the K-lite codec pack, so don't consider this as a reason for the problem.
I made a sample clip as required (1 MB - 34 sec) and it is attached to this post.
Thanks for you all. -
@neomaine
Isn't MPC_HC the Media Player Classic Home Cinema which is included with K-lite codec pack? I already use this player but with no success with these videos. -
Thanks.
Got it to play in Media Player Classic Home Cinema. No codec park was troubled. -
And Media Player Classic using ffdshow.
You may have confused these two players -
MPCHC is included from what I understand. But, why download and install a 'pack' when you don't need anything else? I can't believe people still do this...
My model is to download only what you need and from directly from their site.
My philosoply on 'codec packs':
1 - If you don't know what you're doing, they can be really harmful.
2 - If you DO know what you're doing, then you don't need them.Have a good one,

My advice is to try a mp4 variant that use h.264 or x264 instead of h263 when you are making your mp4. If you have this choice of course. May be that the program is allowing you to use another codec.

We have not heard from the OP in a while.
What I would like to know if he can play the sample he posted with the tools I used. There is nothing wrong with that so it is not a matter of the codec employed. -
There is something odd going on with the sample MP4, but I'm not sure what. I tried it on two PCs. One has MPC-HC, ffdshow and the Haali splitter installed. The second has the same software installed with the addition of LAV Filters. I didn't play around too much but I couldn't open it using the second PC. I tried internal/external filters, but MPC-HC said it couldn't render the file.
VLC wouldn't open it on either PC. MKVMergeGUI says it's not a recognised file type. YAMB opens it but can't successfully remux it. GraphEdit won't open it.
MPC-HC did manage to open it on the first PC, but only after Haali popped up with an error message saying the media type isn't recognised. MPC-HC is configured to use it's internal splitter for MP4s. The status bar says it's 18 seconds long but it only plays for 2 seconds.
To a certain extent I agree with the "don't install codec packs" philosophy, but in the case of K-lite it appears fairly harmless. The standard version doesn't really install a plethora of codecs. http://www.codecguide.com/features_standard.htm
What I didn't know, until looking at the K-Lite site though, was this:
http://www.codecguide.com/about_kl.htm
"The codec pack contains an optimized build of MPC-HC. The main difference with the standard builds of MPC-HC is that most of the internal codecs have been removed. The removed codecs are unnecessary because better external codecs are available.
The codecs from the pack offer better performance, stability, and quality than the internal codecs of MPC-HC. They also support much more audio and video formats, and provide more functionality."
So I guess the OP shouldn't be using the K-Lite version of MPC-HC for testing. -
Of course no two user's systems/setup are identical.
All I can tell you that both programs tested were direct installs without codec-packs. I also have the haali splitter installed but it was ffdshow that was invoked when playing the file with Media Player Classic. MPCHC did not invoke this. I thought that all settings for these programs were at default. -
Anyone know how MPC-HC loads/uses it's internal filters/decoders? It's only happened to me once before..... I was messing around with the SVP frame rate conversion DirectShow AVISynth thingy, and after uninstalling it, a few of MPC-HC's internal decoders would no longer work. It'd decode some video with ffdshow instead no matter what I did. In the end I re-installed ffdshow and MPC-HC and everything went back to normal after a reboot, but I just found it odd MPC-HC wasn't using it's internal filters for a while. I'd assumed if they were enabled, it'd pretty much have to use them.
