  1. Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie here I'm editing a video and I would like there to be text appearing "letter for letter" just as if it was written. Basically exactly like in this video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNAVRIZcNfA

Also I really like this hand written font.

Does anyone knows how to do this? I have no experience whatsoever with video editing and this would be my first try with editing a video but if anyone can help me with giving advise on how to create this effect, I would be very grateful.

    Thanks again! Rose

    Welcome to the forum

It's typically done with a "mask reveal" or a linear "wipe reveal", the mask is keyframed (animated), revealing the already written text underneath. This example is done "letter by letter", not individual strokes (as if you were handwritting), the latter is more difficult to do . Typically something like After Effects is used, but it can be done in most video editors (e.g. sony vegas, premiere pro, fcpx) .

For the exact font, ask in various font expert forums (e.g. whatthefont forum), they usually reply the same day

For more specific instructions, provide more information on the software you are using for this

Use search terms like "linear wipe" or "mask reveal" or "text reveal" + whatever software you are using. There should be many step by step video tutorials on youtube & other sites

    eg.

You make the whole line of text in a paint program, as a PNG w/transparent alpha. Then on the timeline you position the text as a regular clip, and drag a black rectangle across the screen to reveal it.

That's the concept, but the way it's implemented is different on each software, so you want the easiest to learn one. That's why I recommend Vegas Studio.

Adobe makes fine products though, assuming you have a lot of patience to figure it out, and a blazing-fast computer.
