How would I go about taking a picture of a natural landmark and superimposing an image of myself?

I want to make a jedi lightsaber pic, but I need a good background.

  2. Step one -- get a good image editing program (e.g., Adobe Photoshop; Jasc Paint Shop Pro is getting pretty good now too but you just can't beat Photoshop).

Step two -- get your background. Take note of the lighting in the background.

Step three -- take a photo (digital or standard but you will then need a scanner) of yourself. Arrange it so that the lighting looks "right" of the background. It is a good idea to do so with a background that will make it easy to cut out later.

Step four -- you will have to "cut" your image out and paste it as a new layer on the background. It's a good idea to try and get the lighting / contrast / brightness / etc., right before doing this.

BTW, there is a plug-in for Photoshop called Extensis Mask Pro that is great for making masks, selecting complex objects.

    Regards.
