  1. I've read a lot of the capturing threads here but I am not seeing what I'm doing wrong.

Analog capture. Ancient 19-year old Nikon VN-750 Hi-8; playback straight to modern TV looks good. Using RCA video/audio outs from camera to Canopus ADVC-110, analog in, all DIP switches to Off. Firewire out to fast PC, Windows 8. Running all manner of capture utilities: the Vidcap 6.0 Sony delivers with Vegas Studio, VirtualDub and Stoik as referred here. Bad sync, crazy colors. Again, looks good straight off the camera, but can't capture at all.

I've attached a few seconds of the AVI.

I was reading about needing a TBC -- do I actually need one since I have such an old "deck" I'm playing the video from?
