Not really a rip problem but don't know where else to post it. The above listed movie causes my computer to re-boot when inserted in my BR disk drive[Liteon IHES 208] I've never had this happen before with any other disk so I don't really know what to look for. I've uses the same liteon in another computer and it does the same thing. Both computers are running XP SP3. Other Br disks still play but not the Marigold one. I pulled my PS3 out and it played just fine on that. With or without any of the ripping programs enabled the movie when inserted into the drive just causes the computer to keep re-booting.
Any suggestions?
Tony

Thanks for the suggestion jagabo but it didn't help.
The drive starts to read the disk and while the green light is still blinking it reboots. Since I posted I did go thru about 30 of my BR disks and every one starts up fine. I even pulled the drive and inserted it in a USB box with it's own power supply and still the same thing.

More likely an issue with the udf reader and / or upper / lower filters.
Makemkv has its own udfreader but to use it you need to hold the shift key down till the drive stops trying to read the bd the target the bd via makemkv.
If it works without rebooting then your next step is to remove the current udfreader installed and filters. -
That didn't work either. I had Makemkv running. Held down the shift key. That brought up another choice screen RE:holding down the shift key for more than 8 seconds. I tried to install the disk with both alternatives and it still went into re-boot.
This is the only disk I have ever had this problem with and even though the disk plays fine on my PS3 could it still be the disk?

Did you continue holding down the shift key until the drive stopped spinning (or the computer rebooted)?
-
I'm still not understanding this completely. I do have Fab and MakeMKV installed but not always active. Do I hit their start icon then insert the disk or do I just insert the disk while holding shift. Seems like whichever way I do it the disk doesn't stop spinning and it always re-boots.
I did re-install the udf reader but that made no difference either.
Could anyone help me to understand why it is only this disk and why it's the same on 2 computers?

When you put a disc in the drive Windows first looks to see what kind of disc it is and then may run some software. For example, if there is an Autorun.inf file it may execute that script, if it sees it's a DVD it may automatically start up your DVD player software, etc. This mechanism is disabled when you hold down the shift key. The shift key is checked after Windows has mounted the disc -- which is usually several seconds after you close the tray. So holding down the shift key until the drive stops spinning is safest.

Holding the shift keys gives me a popup with 3 buttons
OK to keep the keys active
Cancel to cancel filter keys and
Settings. this just gets rid of the popup.
So what button do I push?
At one time or another I pushed each of these but the drive just kept reading the disk and with the shift key held down it still re-booted

Guessing..... maybe it's due to copyright protection of sorts on the disc, given it seems to apparently happen using the same drive in two PCs. I assume that drive's a few years old (or that model has been around for a few years). Maybe check to see if it's running the latest firmware and update it if need be.
-
Ignore the popup, just keep holding the shift key down until the drive stops spinning or the computer reboots. If the computer reboots it's not an autorun problem. If the drive stops spinning it is an autorun problem (copy protection or something corrupt) and you can dispatch the dialog any way you want.

Updated my firmware. Did what jagabo suggested and the drive did not stop reading it just re-booted. Tried the new firmware with a number of my other BRs. They all played just fine.
anything else?

I can't find any reports on this being a bug in the disc - lucky you (just kidding).
20th Century Fox hasn't been known in the past for taking extreme steps to prevent copy protection (ie. no bad sector stuff on DVDs, this movie isn't listed on a Cinavia list that I can find). Either it's a new form of copy protection that is misbehaving or it's some kind of weird problem maybe related to your use of XP. If you have access to a PC with Vista or Win 7 that can play BluRays, it might be very interesting to try the disc there and see what happens. -
Don't have access to either OP sys. I guess I can always pull out the PS3 to play the disk but mostly i just use my computer to stream my BRs to one of my TVs or I down size them to 720p put them on a external hard disk and play them thru my Media player.
For now I guess I'll just give up and see if it happens with any other disks.
Anyway, thanks to all that have tried to help. It has all been good input. I just regret that none of it worked. However, I will keep trying from time to time.

You could try disabling the autoplay feature so that when you insert a disc the computer doesn't try to auto load any software. Win7 has this feature, not sure about xp though, it would be somewhere in Control Panel if it does.

Well, Almost. I used Decrypter to reset auto Notification. Fab Passkey then removed the encryption but would not rip it and none of my players would play it. As soon as I accessed the disk it would reboot the sys.

The three-button menu you are getting is a Windows accessability option which has nothing whatsoever to do with Disk playing. I believe it is identified as Shift-Keys or something similar. You are getting it because you are holding the Shift key.
Have no idea what is causing your problem, but when you say you have another PC with the same optical player, do you mean you have moved the actual drive back and forth, or is this another one just like it, there are Two drives and Both malfunction with this disk? -
DVDFab Passkey will almost certainly NOT yet be able to rip this. It's too recent. Passkey trails the pay version by about 6 months. For a foreign film this was a major release in the USA and it will most likely contain copy protection methods that Passkey doesn't understand but the current pay DVDFab should.

I hate to bring up an old thread but I just got this movie from the library, and the exact same thing is happening on my Windows XP SP3 computer. Every time I put it in the computer, I get a BSD and the computer reboots. Has anyone found a way around this???
TIA
