    Hi,

I`m having real difficulty in using/how to use the fade plugins in vd.

I have a clip which starts straight off and ends straight off and would like to smooth in from black to full picture ; then end the clip fading to black.

In theory , simple but it` not , at least to me.

I have tried the fadefx and fader plugins , but they don`t work . On the fade-in , this is just impossible - no fade at all .

Fading out is also a no go. Could it be that these plug-ins don`t work on wmv files ? i don`t know.

I`m just going nuts here !

    Please help anyone .

    Thanks.

I don't know about the "fader" plugin, I always use FadeFX.
Load a FadeFX filter and use it for the fade-in (Fade from black + "extend effect to other frames" + from frame # and to frame #).
Load a second FadeFX for the fade-out (Fade out to black + "extend effect to other frames" + from frame # and to frame #).
If you are doing any color correction, etc., make the fadeFX filters the last filters in the chain.

Thanks for your reply . I have been fiddling with that faderdx and I just can`t get it to work.

This is what I wrote in the editor :

0-200 FADEIN ( i.e. from black to full ) , the oriiginal clip does not start in black , but is in full RGB !
17450-17550 FADEOUT ( However, the fade is not right or just simply does not fade.)

I watched the clip on youtube , over, and over - make it seem so easy !!

    Well, I`m still trying !

    Thanks for your input.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year !

I've never had much luck with either VirtualDub's fader or AviDemux's fader.

  5. They work fine here. 200 frames is awfully long but it should still work. Be sure you're not in Direct Stream Copy mode.

Maybe that was my problem. I never look at that. Nowaways I'm always frameserving out of VDub to MainConcept Reference.
(An OLD version of MainConcept - I'm not made of money)

I just load FadeFX into the filter list and set frame numbers. Why use a script?
For interlaced video, fade in and out are smoother in Avisynth with FadeIn2 and FadeOut2. But if you're working with wmv source, you have a project ahead of you. No one would do that kind of process with lossy compressed video.

That FadeFX plugin worked in the end.

Basically , i was editing out bits of video and then applying the fade in7out effect - which didn`t work.

The solution came by accident , i applied the fade effect without editing and it worked . the beginning of the clip was blacked out and then faded......it worked !!

In the end i made a note of the frames to black out and fade in/out - did the editing and then applied the filters at the end.

Worked, just relieved is more of a way of putting it as this was part of a project.

Thanks to everyone who helped .

Hoped the holidays went well and have one hell of a 2013 !!
