    Dear all
I can use the VirtualDub fade plug-in to fade each clip in/out.
Is it then possible to overlap the clips to produce a smooth fade transition between the two clips (like WMM)?
I'm grateful for any ideas. Thanks

  2. It sounds like a Dissolve is what you're after. I use AviSynth and its Dissolve command. I don't know whether or not it can be done using a VDub filter:

I went looking for a VDub Dissolve filter and couldn't find one. But as I don't filter with VDub, I may not have been looking in the right places.

Yes, I have not been able to find even discussion of such a VD filter. AviSynth seems to be the best bet.
    Thanks

Give a try to Natan's "Exotic Fade" filter, hosted by Neuron2.

Takes a bit of fiddling, but you might be able to do what you need with it.

If all you need is a fade to black or any other color, using the Fill filter in blend mode with the Curve Editor will do the trick. There is no filter that will give you a true dissolve with Virtualdub. You can experiment with other filters in Blend Mode to get some decent transitions. The Blur filter isn't too bad.

It I've absolutely got to have a dissolve or other exotic transition then I will use a pay editer. I have copies of Studio 8 (and 9) and MGI Video Wave laying around incase I need a transition that I cannot create with Virtualdub.
