I've started putting together a basic capture setup to convert all my VHS tapes to digital format. After spending hours reading on the net, I've decided to use an older PC running Windows XP and an ATI AIW X1900 capture card, AVT-8710 TBC, but am still stuck with which VCR to get. I've tried to be rather conservative in how much I want to spend so I'm currently left with 2 options. NB, being in Australia I need a PAL unit.
I want to stick with JVC, and the two units I've come across which looked appealing were:
JVC SR-VS30 for $400 located in Australia.
or
JVC HR-S9500 for $300 which I would have to ship from the Netherlands.
Can someone offer any advice as to which way I should go? I'm not sure whether the VS30 has built in TBC, but given that I've got an external unit, does it lack any other features that would improve the quality of the image?

Not that you asked, but my $8 secondhand JVC HR-VP782U works beautifully. Try scouring local thrift stores and charity shops.
