  1. I bought this unit thinking I could capture straight to around 1400 kbps and get the same kind of quality i see in similar bitrate torrent video downloads without later downcoding. I was wrong. I see pixelation.

Is there a setting I'm missing? Is my capture device not good enough for this?

You mean videos that are converted from blu-ray sources or similar? That wont be possible with any analog realtime capturing.

  3. The HD PVR catpures only in the format of the source, 1080i or 720p for HD sources. Interlaced video requires more bitrate than progressive video. Larger frames require more bitrate than smaller frames. Higher frame rates require more bitrate than lower frame rates. Real time hardware encoders require more bitrate than slower software encoders. More noise requires more bitrate than lower noise (analog video transmission is noiseier than digital video transmission). All those things are working against the HD PVR.

No, TV captures I find on the net. I've always assumed they originated from hardware capture devices and were never further compressed with software encoding.

Your assumption is not correct. Few originate from hardware capture devices and those that do are likely compressed with software.
