  1. I’ve bought various media in the past, from unbranded to the more costly branded variety. I’ve noticed that 12X on the box doesn’t really mean a huge amount to Nero. Is there a code on the CD ? could I override this in Nero's settings (I’ve got some cheap 12X that only show up as 4X capable in Nero).

I accept I might get a few 'coasters', but 4X is driving me mad!

    Thanks in advance.

  2. The maximum speed you can write at is determined by your burner not the media. The speed on the cdr's is the recommended maximum speed that you can record at safely without getting errors. You can still record to these discs at a higher speed if your burner is capable but you might make some coasters. What is your burners max speed.

  3. Thanks for your reply Craig

unfortunately, this isn't the case. In Nero’s ‘burn’ section, the burn speed pulldown (without a CD in the drive) is from 1X to 16X. I stick in a cheap blank CD and the only option that’s available is 4X. I swap this with a more expensive branded one, and all the options come back again (1-16). Nero must be reading something from the media, I just need to turn this ‘function’ off.

    thanks again.

  4. I just assumed that was the case, because I have burned discs rated at 12X speed at 24X speed with no problem.
