    Apparently YouTube encodes HD audio at 44.1/192. Is there any advantage to uploading audio of a higher quality than that? I.e. will YouTube's encoders yield a better 44.1/192 audio if you throw something of higher quality at them or no?

    afaik 192 kbps aac audio (two-channel) is considered transparent. Give them the best you can.

    Perhaps issues related to policy of some services are not technical?

    Vimeo offers possibility to download video in original format i.e. uploaded file.
